Hyacinths & Orchids

This gorgeous quilt was asking for this flowing pantograph:

Hyacinth Grande by Patricia Ritter.

 Actual hyacinths.

The quilt wasn't sure about the thread color it wanted. So I stepped in and made the executive decision to use this wonderfully reliable combination:

Bobbin thread: Aurifil 40 wt. cotton thread #2510. Top thread: Glide 40 wt. polyester thread #40522, "Tabriz Orchid".

Actual orchids.

The orchid thread was chosen because of how pretty it looked as it sparkled across each fabric:

Even the creamy-goldy-lavendary batik backing really loved this color. The tension was perfect. Glide loves Aurifil:

The rectangular piecing loved showing off the curvy quilting texture:

I quilted the pantograph rows a tad closer together than the pattern suggested, so that the rows would nest more seamlessly. My SPI was 11. The bobbin didn't tighten as it emptied (as it did on the last quilt). It was a wonderful finish.

Up next.... family stuff. Family quilts, I should say. In a family full of quilt makers I feel it's my God-given duty (privilege?) to use my Gammill to finish their masterpieces. I remember the days of hunching over my DSM cramming a huge quilt sandwich through a tiny opening and wishing I had one of those "longarm thingys".

I love comments! But not from spammers. So I've had to add word verification to my comment section to keep them away. I'm so sorry! I hope you will still leave comments even though it will be a bit more difficult. : )
